Offenders at some federal prisons have the ability to send and receive e-mail using a federal computer system called TRULINCS.

In order to correspond with an offender, you must be on the offenders approved contact list. Your email address must match exactly the address the prison has. This system allows offenders to send and receive emails up to 13,000 characters. Attachments are not allowed.

The TRULINCS system is expected to be installed at all federal prisons by June 2011.
